Insurance FAQ
Common questions about insurance coverage, how we work, and what to expect.
Working With Us
What does it mean to be an independent insurance agency?
An independent agency represents multiple insurance carriers rather than working exclusively for one company. That means we can shop your coverage across 15+ carriers to find the best combination of price, coverage, and carrier financial strength for your specific situation. We work for you — not the insurance company.
Is there a fee to get a quote?
No — quotes are completely free with no obligation. We’re compensated by the carrier when you place coverage through us. You pay the same premium whether you use an agent or go directly to the carrier, so there’s no cost to having an advisor in your corner.
How long does it take to get a quote?
Most quotes are returned the same business day. Some commercial lines policies or complex situations may take 1–2 days as we gather information and shop multiple carriers. We’ll always give you a timeline upfront.
Coverage Questions
What’s the difference between actual cash value and replacement cost coverage?
Actual cash value (ACV) pays the depreciated value of damaged property — what it’s worth today, not what it costs to replace it. Replacement cost coverage pays what it actually costs to replace the item with a new equivalent. For homeowners, this difference can be tens of thousands of dollars after a major loss. We always explain which you have and what it means.
Is renters insurance worth it?
Almost always yes. Renters insurance typically costs $15–30/month and covers your personal belongings (laptop, furniture, clothes, electronics), personal liability if someone is injured in your apartment, and additional living expenses if you’re displaced. Most people dramatically underestimate how much their belongings are worth until they have to replace everything at once.
What business insurance does a small business actually need?
At minimum: general liability to cover bodily injury and property damage claims from third parties. If you have employees, workers’ comp is required in Texas. If you own commercial property or equipment, you’ll want commercial property coverage. If you provide professional services or advice, professional liability (E&O) is important. We’ll walk through your specific situation and identify what’s essential vs. nice-to-have.
Claims & Service
Do you help with claims?
Yes. When you have a claim, you contact your carrier directly (we’ll give you all their contact info). But if you’re having trouble navigating the claims process, we’re here to advocate for you — helping you understand your coverage, communicate with the adjuster, and make sure you get a fair settlement.
How often should I review my insurance coverage?
We recommend an annual review at minimum, plus any time you have a major life change — buying a home, getting married, starting a business, having children, retiring, or making major purchases. We proactively reach out to clients each year before their renewal to make sure their coverage still fits their situation.
